Hublot is a brand that is known for its innovative designs, using a combination of unusual materials and advanced technology to create timepieces that are both visually stunning and highly functional. The watch present here is a great example of Hublot’s ability to weave new methods of innovation into their watchmaking. The Big Bang MP-11 Power Reserve 14 Days ref. 911.JX.0102.RW measures at 45mm, with the case and bezel being crafted from sapphire crystal. Sapphire crystal is rated a nine out of ten on the Moh’s scale, which means only materials harder than that can scratch it, such as diamond. There is also a reason why sapphire crystal isn’t usually the top choice when creating watch cases, even though the material itself is extremely durable and tough. Sapphire crystal is notoriously hard to work with, and even producing a dial crystal requires immense labor. This, however, just goes to show Hublot’s personality – the brand is unafraid and always willing to take up a challenge, regardless of how tough and uncommon it might be. That principle is why they’ve often been attributed with the title of ‘Master of Materials’, and this watch is a clear indication of that. Beyond the material, Hublot designed calibre HUB9011 in-house that is capable of up to 30m of water resistance and 336 hours of power reserve, the equivalent of 14 days. To achieve this, Hublot engineers and watchmakers have developed an original design movement that incorporates seven barrels paired in series, allowing for the transmission of energy between the movement’s horizontal axis barrels and the vertical wheel which drives the hour and minute displays. Through a skeletonized dial, the intricate and meticulous craftsmanship is on full display. The watch is completed and complemented with a white rubber strap, which provides a comfortable and secure experience. With Hublot’s easy strap-changing system, one can also choose their strap according to the day’s mood, or depending on the activity or event. The watch is a testament to Hublot’s ability to innovate and create, never letting the difficulty of something falter their capabilities.
